Plage/Tattoo = Circumstances, Late September
by LAURA

I spoke with Stef after the show in Paris (he was so great that he let me in though it was sold out, by the way). He said the name was taken from a beach in Belgium where all junkies and "strange" people can be found. Most of them have tattoos all over their body.... that's why they call it Plage Tattoo. What is the connection with the show? Well....I don't know.

I saw the show for the second time in Belgium and I found it much more interesting and it moved me deeply, far more than the first time. So my suggestion is: if you feel disappointed and upset at first sight, just give another try (as for Zita Swoon music, it needs

some time to get under the skin).

I found it beautiful. I did not tape it, but they told

me that there will be a record out soon with the music

of the show.

Plage/Tattoo = Circumstances

"Tanoshii da te. Tsukurete. Kaeritai, kaeritai." Although Stef claimed noone could understand Tamayo, I could. :-) Well, most of it, her Japanese was too informal for me. But anyway I wasn't as thrilled with the show. It had its moments, but all in all I consider it to be more a rough draft instead of a finished piece. Also I was surprised it was that short. I love the tapdancing, the dancing of Tamayo and the guy from Compagnie C de La B (he's the one who appears in Roses-clip, no?). And of course Stef's singing is great.

For those in Portugal and everywhere else n the world, Plage Tattoo is this amazing combination of theatre, dance and music...

It has five people as intervinients:

Stef Kamil Carlens, Bjorn Eriksson and Aarich Jespers from Zita Swoon and Tamayo Okano and Koen Augustijnen from Les Ballets C. de la B.

I had the opportunity to see it on the 17th September, in Anciennes Belgique (brussels) and what can i say?...this review came like magic into my note pad....:) I hope you like it.

here it goes:

A story about love and desire, and mostly about the many different but somehow alike faces a woman can have. The misunderstanding in human relations; the ways you might find to love another but still have a main goal to your wanting....The wildness and unpredictable things that make man say that women are, at the same time, goddesses and devils; unreachable but desirable. Anyway, the several ways to define, regard and decline over a woman, man and relations, together or apart.

"...And if you're thinking on leaving her man, you're crazy!"

The need to get out for some moments and the urge to get back in; the

wanting of someone and the urge to get near: With lots of romantic,

seductive moves, sexy words and shyness in ones eyes, this is a great

description of how a woman can change and how she can always stay the same.

The reasons for the acts and the acts about that particular reasons,

together with what may come from the body of a watcher when realising the others story. Its definitely about how circumstances can change our daily regular lives...how something so big can come as a reaction to such little act.... The realising that what we do will always interfere with what we take for granted, and then, once that interference is done, we get aware that there's nothing in all the time and space we know that should be taken for granted.

Circumstances are real, so is spontaneity, rage, wanting and hard luck. This is quite a brilliant way to present an everyday's story, the jealousy, the passion, the disappointment and the surprise...

A simple way, yet a truthful one to get us in the rhythm of close body, bloody words, hurt feelings and bluesy moods.

Five people as intervinients, Stef kamil Carlens is, in my point of view, the guy that calls people to the reviling rational thinking of love and relationships, if only that can ever be possible! But if one day it turns out to be, I'm sure S.K.C. will have something to do with it... : ), as he, for himself is a revelation, inside the play. He could be the one that interferes the most with the story represented by the dancers, the one that translates their feelings to the public.

I'll define Bjorn Eriksson's character as the in between kinda thing, the one that exteriorises the feelings of the ones that surround him through physical reactions... And while Bjorn appears shy as only a superstar from Kentucky can be, the dancers show us a nervous, witty, moving, sad, happy, tasty dance, full of energy and loaded with mute line's interpretations.

The rose moves are just a impossible too describe....great! ) Their movements get very, very well together; they are the main characters, they are where we turn our attentions to, they are the lovers in trouble.

And last but definitely not least comes Aarich Jespers, he begins the play, perfectly. It couldn't be better chosen for the intro. Brilliant, I should say, great start, and as the story ´gets its wheels´ he turns out to be the peaceful, calmest one.

Of course that one of the main characteristics of Plage Tattoo is the Zita Swoon music, the one that allows the play to have the quick, sudden, strong impact that puts us all in the ground, just by watching and listening to its simplicity.....

This is just what I could say for one play that hasn't let me down, by the contrary I got out with much more than the expected, it gave me a lot to think of...like I guess it does for everyone who sees it.

For more I guess I'll just have too see it again, because there's something telling me that this play is one of the kind that you'll just have to see it one more time to get the whole picture.... Novembre 'attends'!

I just dont want to say the main moments, the strongest images and lines, neither the watchable things that made it so impressive, course then all the surprise you have when watching would be lost..and let me say, quite a surprise!

i´ll surprise myself again this thursday and friday....;)

bye

see you swoon
