2000 Monkeys is a band consisting of Tom Pintens and Roel Poriau. The music of 2000 Monkeys is a very simple kind of easy listening and reminds only vaguely of the Flowers for Breakfast. The use of vocals with only a guitar or a piano and drums as instruments creates a nice atmosphere, although there will probably be more instruments on the album: Tom has a fancy for synthesizers and electrical sound effects, and on stage the band is sometimes reinforced with a guitar and a bass guitar.

The first public gig occured during De Nachten 2000 where Tom was extremely nervous. Guest musicians were Stephen Duncan (who had played his own set before 2000 Monkeys, sometimes reinforced with Tom Pintens) and Tomas Desmet on bass guitar. They played six songs, the last of which was called Guns and Piano's.

A second concert followed somewhere in autumn 2000 when Tom and Roel played in Geel on the occasion of De Nachten On Tour.

The third gig (to my knowledge) took place in the Bourla playhouse in Antwerp during the Rock the Vote event. Here, no guest musicians were added to the line-up and Tom only played the piano or an occasional synth-box. He was still a bit uncertain, using printed lyrics which, however, he didn't really need. I managed to get a setlist, which reads more or less like this:

An album will be released soon, and has probably been recorded for a large part already. If it sounds anything like the shows I've heard, it will be a fantastic addition to your record collection, and hopefully a wonderful tour will follow, although a two-piece band isn't perhaps the best setup for a large tour.
