Mini-concert, FNAC, Gent, Belgium 27/02/99
by KEVIN MOENS

Just a(nother) short review of a(nother) great mini-gig by Zita Swoon @ Fnac, Gent.

The band showed up very early today, about 1 hour before the gig should get started. They all had plenty of time to soundcheck (which wasn't that hard, because their wasn't any P.A. or amps around) Stef had a short interview with AVS, the local television channel. Meanwhile the other members were just hanging around, Bjorn and Aarich just sat there, looking very bored. They did some impro, and Stef was singing text from a book. Finally they let us all in, and we ended up on the first row, off course. We heard the same song again, and now I could clearly see that the book was from Bukowski (very 'cultural' huh? ;) A(nother) great version of 'Our Daily Reminders', followed by some sort of 'How could I resist?'. Tom made a mistake in the beginning, so the damage was done and they started changing the text and the song while they were playing it. At one point they all started singing the 'How could I resist?'-line over and over again.

I was pleased to hear that beautiful Daniel Lanois song again (can't remember the title for the moment) and 'Hey Melinda'. Other songs: Maria, the Aldi-song as Stef once called it (TV-song), Rub it in (with Grand Master Thomas really going wild).

No 'Trip to the city' this time, possibly because some mailinglist-person wasn't there to ask for it :)

This was probably the most amusing concert of all Fnac/Plato gigs I saw. Everyone was very relaxed, and they had a lot of fun onstage. And off course, you can't get any closer to them (in my case, not to many centimetres from Stef).

Some other info:

I asked Thomas when they would do the delayed gig in Fnac Wijnegem. He wasn't aware of the fact that they should have played there in the first place, so he guessed that they won't play there at all.

I was also surpised to see that Stef recognised me and said hi when the band arrived. After all, they see and meet so many people. Appearantly he also has a good memory, 'cause at Fnac Antwerp we talked about the new dEUS and Stef still had to get one. The first thing he said to me after the gig was 'I got my dEUS cd yesterday! :)) And he also thought he'd allready signed all my Moondog/Zita-stuff (which is true, I gave him 2 Maria-singles to sign, who belong to Bart van Belle and Thomas Annerel :))

That's all about a(nother) great Zita-day.

I was also at the Zita Swoon mini-concert. It was the most relaxing Zita Swoon concert i saw ! I've seen a more relaxed Moondog Jr concert (Theaterzaal Vooruit, two years ago), but the one yesterday was really good. I think Kevin already told a lot, but he forgot something very funny. When they came on stage, Stef started singing "Pain's playing yoyo in my body as we speak", Yep, a short verse from Instant Street. Few people noticed it, according to me, but it was very funny to me.

The two songs i liked the most were How Could I Resist (great version as Kevin told already) and Rub It In featuring Thomas making funny noises. In fact, the whole band was making inside jokes all the time i guess, Tom and Stef started to laugh every time they looked at each other, and Thomas was also doing a lot of funny moves. Guess, they were feeling real real good. Let's hope the concert in Vooruit (24/3) is also that good.
