We got there rather late, mainly because we left too late. But also because we couldn't find a good place to park without having to manouvre through ditches and because this old fart that I offered my extra ticket to, kept whining about not wanting to pay the extra 2 quarters service-charge that we payed for it. Anyway, by the time Stella and I entered the room, the music already started. It was totally crowded and I could not see the stage, but I was convinced there was a support act, so I figured that that was what I heard. I saw something female-looking moving around on stage and figured the supportact had a female singer. We tried moving up front by the left side of the room, but that wasn't possible. When we walked back to try the right side...I realised I knew that voice, and I realised that there wasn't a supportact. This was Zita Swoon already!! We hurried to the right side of the room and I spotted an empty spot in front of the speaker all the way up front. We crawled to it and ended up at Aarichs feet. What a cool idea to put the drumkit at the side of the stage instead of in the back! It did block the view to the rest of the band, but at least Stefke was right in front of us. He was wearing some silky, shiny, purple and gold top that reached to his knees with bellbottomy trousers in the same fabric. Pretty stunning outfit, but no wonder I mistook our androgynous-dressing singer for a woman once again ;)) The set consisted of mainly new material. It sounded okay, but I always find it hard to hear a song well, when I the first time I hear it, it is played live. Too bad the album was not out yet. Maybe I should go and see another show after the release. I wasn't disappointed in the new stuff though, and I heard a few songs that made me very curious for the new record. From what I heard it doesn't seem that they have continued their exploration into disco, although the 'Pop Music' cover somewhere at the end of the set was very cool. And of course 'My Bond with You and Your Planet: Disco!', wasn't to be missed. But is was definitly the very special version of 'She = like meeting Jesus' that made my night. For me the strength of this band is the way they are able to always surprise their audience with yet another incredible version of a song (any song!) that ends up even more beautiful than it already was. Too bad we didn't know all the new stuff yet. Guess this wasn't the last show for us to go to this tour.. Stell, how about Tilburg? Do we have a date? ;) |
