During last week (23, 24, 25, 26-6-1997), Zita Swoon gave 4 performances in the bar of "de Monty" (a little theater) in Antwerp. The performances where try-out's for their new songs. We went to the first and the last one, and the other ones were attended by friends of ours. Below, you'll find our comments on some of the new songs.

We (and our friends) were very pleased with the new songs. We heard approx. 7 new ones, and we liked all of them: some were good, others were brilliant. We can not recall all song-titles, but still we will try to describe them. The very danseable "disco"-song got everyone wildly enthousiastic; especially when Zita Swoon (assisted by Benjamin Boutreur on the sax) play it again at the end of the concert (on loud request of Tom Barman). Another fantastic song was a "song for Jeff Buckley" (I don't think it was the title of the song), it was a slow bluesy-song. "Rabbit field", a song they also played a few months earlier, is very amusant for the people of Antwerp, since it refers to a field at the border of the town, where people used to walk, and let their dog's out. The field is not open to people now; because they found bombs from the 2nd world war under the grass of "Rabbit Field". "Orpheus", is a song that's not very easy, but after hearing it a few times, it starts to grow and it gains melody every time, like most of the Moondog Jr. songs (and that's a good sign, I think). The concerts seemed to grow day by day, and so did the new songs. They sounded much better on thursday than on monday. And as a reward for our readyness to be the try-out audience for their new songs, Zita Swoon offered us some marvellous versions of "Couldn't she get drowned ?" and "Jintro and the great Luna". And thus, the audience was very enthousiast after each concert. After these conerts, I think we can look out for the new CD with great expectations.
