The Plato-gig was great! Trip to the city in 4, after them playing along to the carnaval-band with people dressed as teletubbies that passed on the street. Stef playing on his kids-instruments and the rest of the band joining in ! Cool! Daniel Lanois song..

Record store Plato in Zwolle is packed when I enter, at 15.05. The concert hasn't started yet, no sign of the band or what so ever. The whole city is going mad with carnaval and its characteristic music, but in here people are waiting for something completely different. The atmosphere is tense. At 15.20 Zita Swoon enters the building and it takes them a while to walk through the pack of people, because of the huge guitar cases they are carying with them. After a while they start playing, nearly accoustic: there are just two speakers standing by. They play songs that will not be featured in their concert that evening in Hedon. The setlist is
as follows: While commencing Trip to the city, a carnaval parade passes by outside. Because Plato is mainly constructed from glass, the noise from the vehicles is enormous. The band stop playing and Stef asks if there's a carillon in the neighbourhood. He takes some sort of trumpet and plays along with the melodies outside. The crowd laughs. After a beautiful version of Daily Reminders, in which Stef gives the best of his vocal capacities, the song is noted as 'the continuing story of Josie'. When the last tones of Stamina have been played, the applause is overwhelming en the band stay in to sign some autographs and to chat with their fans. A truely remarkable concert, even though the interference of carnaval was really anoying. |
