Home matches are often difficult for a popgroup, but Zita Swoon enters the stage fearless. Stef Kamil Carlens burns with self-confidence and propels his band to unprecedented levels in the really sublime songs of the cd I Paint Pictures On A Wedding Dress. Everything is right in this performing. The scenery, existing of a good 20 with a fret-saw made life-size puppets, is amusing, beautiful and functional at the same time.

The music changes per song of mood and Carlens colours them each time differently with his matchless vocals. The man with the 7 voices breaths heavily, squeaks, growls, laughs, gasps, peeps or sings flawless high and possesses a number of registers in between of that. Carlens is in top form (he doesn't smoke and drink anymore), wants to be a girl sometimes and dances with a will. Spontaneous Zita Swoon is moving on the right moments (like in the heartfelt ode to Jeff Buckley), but offers beside that also just fun and pleasure, yes even disco! The quintet continually comes across the right instruments and the 3 electric guitars, piano, melodica, steel-guitar and upright bass know exactly there place.

Antwerp popcollectives rather get blamed sometimes for operating sloppy and (to) impulsive, Zita Swoon deducts with that permanently with masterly, disciplined but cheerfully playing. In the encore with among other songs That's Amore of nota bene Dean Martin, Walk On The Wild Side of Lou Reed and the own Moondog-classic TV Song, fête and drama alternate effortless. dEUS may not be in need of Carlens anymore, Zita Swoon in this shape is out of this world.
