Life is a Sexy Sanctuary
by KEVIN MOENS

First Impression: good album, but you'll have to listen to it a couple of times before really getting into it. I think the songs aren't as emotional as 'Song For A Dead Singer' etc but that's not a real complaint. Nice artwork by Bjorn.

i finally got to listen to the new Zita Swoon, it is on my CD player since i received it yesterday and i simply LOVE IT! Great record they pulled out. It is very intense, short but intense and very different to I Paint Pictures... i see this one as an evolution on the other record. Somebody said it is over produced.. i don't agree with that it's very well produced good sound. This may sound strange but it is what i felt on a few songs there is a strange Nick Cave feeling, not on vocals but on the instrumental part of the songs, Hot Hotter Hottest, gives me that feeling and that synthetizer line is magic in the song it brings a very retro electropop feeling into the song. Well they brought it into the sound of this record with very peculiar and intelligent synth lines on the songs, i do like it very much. Oh and Steph does keep on writing beautiful songs.

I like Moustache on the single, is it about anyone on the band? !! :-)) I look at this record as a second chapter, I paint pictures is great, fantastic dancing tunes but suffering from production failure (it sounded better live than on record) maybe more improvised than this one but maybe that happened due to the process of recording, this record is more mature i guess, maybe less impro here but what this one misses on impro it gains on intensity and consistency. KEEP'EM COMING BOYS!

Overall, I liked it. not loved it, liked it. Itīs one of those albums you have to digest. I do think some of it is a tad bit overproduced, but overall I feel itīs steffīs hand behind it. They really want it to sound like that. One thing I did NOT like (fot the first time ever in Zita) were the base lines. They are WAY to complex given the structural complexity of the band orchestration itself.

The whole album would have been MUCH better with a tighter, more linear and present bass. like, intead of bum da da deoooowwwww bum PA PA PA something bit more mellow, like DUUUUUUUUuuuuuum, deoooooooow, gwaaaaaaaaaaah

Loved Banana queen.

Quiz Question. Who is Josie? girlfriend? Why the constant fixation? NOT criticizing, just inquiring. One thing missisng though, where are the "lunar" references, Steff?

Just a thought.
